Yoga, breath and meditation

Come for the body.
Stay for what it does to your mind.

Yoga, breathwork and meditation for stress relief across our three Gold Coast studios. Members almost never tell us they stayed for the flexibility. They stayed because of how the rest of the week started to feel.

What is actually happening

Nothing here is mystical

There is a version of this conversation that gets vague and floaty very quickly. This is not that version.

Your breath is the one part of your autonomic nervous system you can drive by hand. Slow the exhale and your heart rate follows within a few cycles. It is the reason the room goes quiet about four minutes into a class, well before anyone has done anything difficult.

Attention works the same way. Holding a pose while your mind tries to leave, noticing that it left and bringing it back is not a side effect of the practice. It is the practice. You are doing repetitions of the exact skill that a stressful Tuesday will ask you for.

And stress does not politely stay in your head. It turns up as a clenched jaw, shoulders sitting up around your ears and a lower back that will not settle. Working the body is an honest way into something that started somewhere else.

Worth saying plainly: a yoga class is not treatment. If you are genuinely struggling, this belongs alongside proper support from your GP or a psychologist rather than instead of it. What we can offer is a room, a teacher who notices and 140+ chances a week to put yourself somewhere better.

Three ways in

Not everyone calms down the same way

Stillness works beautifully for some people and makes others crawl out of their skin. Both types of nervous system are welcome here, and there is a route for each.

💨

Through the breath

Slow your exhale and your heart rate follows. That link is ordinary physiology, not mysticism, and it is why a room full of people breathing together settles so quickly. Breath is cued in every class we teach.

🕯️

Through stillness

Holding a shape for three minutes is a rep for your attention. The mind wanders, you notice, you bring it back. That is the entire exercise and it is the same skill you reach for when your week gets loud.

🔥

Through effort

Some minds only go quiet once the body has been properly worked. If sitting still makes you more restless, not less, the way in is a strong practice that leaves you with nothing left to think about.

Weekly at Helensvale

A meditation class that actually goes somewhere

Guided Meditation runs every week at our Helensvale studio, and the style changes week to week rather than repeating the same twenty minutes forever. Over a few months you work through genuinely different approaches instead of settling into one comfortable groove.

It is included in every membership. You do not need to sit cross-legged, you do not need to be able to empty your mind and you will not be asked to share anything with the room.

If you would rather learn the techniques properly first, our Yoga Foundations online course gives a full module to pranayama and another to three guided meditation practices.

"Loved it, the whole experience was blissful for my body, mind and soul."

I wasn't a yoga fan, but I was having a very emotional day and my teacher noticed, and did everything she could to make the class benefit me. I left feeling like I'd had a big yoga hug.

Common questions

Yoga, stress and the mind

Does yoga actually help with stress?
Most people find it does, and the mechanism is not mysterious. Lengthening your exhale slows your heart rate, sustained attention on one thing gives a busy mind somewhere to rest, and stretching releases the physical tension that stress builds in your jaw, shoulders and lower back. What we can tell you honestly is that our members overwhelmingly describe the mental shift, not the physical one, as the reason they keep coming back.
Which Flolo class is best if I am stressed?
Yin Yoga, Stretch Yoga and our Meditation classes are the most direct route, all slow, quiet and heavily breath-led. That said, plenty of members find the opposite works better for them: a strong Dynamic Yoga or Power Pilates class that leaves the body tired and the mind finally quiet. Both are valid. Try one of each in your first week and see which one your nervous system prefers.
Where can I do a meditation class on the Gold Coast?
We run guided Meditation weekly at our Helensvale studio, with the style varying week to week so the practice keeps developing rather than repeating. It is included in every membership at no extra cost. No experience is needed and you do not need to be able to empty your mind, which is not what meditation asks of you anyway.
Do I need any experience to start?
None. You do not need to be flexible, calm, spiritual or good at sitting still. Every class offers modifications and mats, blocks and props are all provided. Stretch Yoga and Meditation are the gentlest starting points, though any class on the timetable will take you.
How long before I notice a difference?
Most people feel something on the way home from their first class, usually a kind of quiet that lasts the evening. The durable change, the one where you handle a hard week differently, comes from consistency over weeks and months rather than any single session. That is the honest answer and it is why we price memberships to make a regular habit easy.
